NASCAR teams testing despite ban

Published by ajracing at 3:08 pm under Latest NASCAR News Edit This

Despite a ban on testing put in place by NASCAR, 14 teams spent this week testing in Arizona.

The teams, all Chevy, used the General Motors Proving Grounds in Mesa Arizona for three days are were expected to wrap up Wednesday. One crew chief indicated that some teams would also test at Virginia International Raceway trying out road course configurations.

NASCAR instituted a ban on testing at NASCAR sanctioned tracks late last year in an attempt to save teams money. Although there was no specific rule against testing, nor would NASCAR technically have control over a team who tested at a non-NASCAR sanctioned track, it was understood that no testing meant just that, no testing.

No word of any possible penalties or comment from NASCAR.
